A mother had lung cancer and was cured. Unfortunately, by the time she went for her regular check-up, they found she had relapsed and was already in Stage 4.
She was the mother of one of the founders of Dr Nose who already had a successful business, iOmniscient Corporation, focused on AI-based Multi-Sensory Analytics which included a Smell Sensor for complex industrial smells.
His mother had complained that her own breath smelt peculiar. The founder quickly adapted an industrial sensor and conducted an initial test confirming that the breath signature could provide an accurate early diagnostic for lung cancer. Unfortunately, this discovery was too late and could not save his mother.
While this experience was very painful, he was determined to bring this technology to save others with similar ailments by making it a more accessible self-testing kit.
The Smell Sensor was put through two further clinical trials (in Israel and Australia) and found to be very efficacious in accurately diagnosing early-stage breast and lung cancer. The company’s medical advisers believe that it would also be effective for the diagnosis of a number of other cancers and non-cancerous diseases as many of the toxins generated during such illnesses travel in the blood stream and ultimately pass over into the breath of the individual in the lungs.
Finding the right combination of sensors and building the AI algorithms necessary for effective diagnosis has taken over a decade. This long period of R&D has culminated in the creation of DrNose, an electronic nose consisting of multiple smell sensors that can pick up different types of complex chemical molecules and in combination enable the diagnosis of a person’s likelihood of having certain diseases. In parallel the company expects to run more extensive clinical trials to enable it to achieve regulatory approval in several key jurisdictions as a Class A medical device.
The research continues with the objective of building a universal non-intrusive screening device that could be used for multiple diseases in a relatively inexpensive and user-friendly manner.
DrNose is backed by iOmniscient which has more than 2 decades of experience implementing intelligent systems in 70 countries. Its comprehensive AI portfolio has topped Gartner’s global list for 4 consecutive years. It owns 70+ international patents including several for its smell technology (e-Nose) that has been used in a variety of industrial applications for quality control in food manufacturing and for detecting gas leaks and other smells in industrial environments.
DrNose, has been spun-off to enable quicker commercialization in the growing medical device market. DrNose has been trademarked in both Australia and USA. A new patent is currently being prepared on its use as a medical device
In recent years, humanity has been able to lengthen the human life span through major innovations in the medical sphere. The key to extending this further is early diagnosis of the most common ailments and DrNose is going to play a key role in helping humans live longer. The market for such a capability is huge.
$24m has been invested to get to this stage. We invite you to join us in this journey to help humans live longer.
DrNose, if it had existed at the time, may have helped the founder’s mother.
